Wind Street is a key location in the Swansea city centre location. It has long been at the heart of the city’s night-time economy, but thanks to a £2m upgrade, it has been transformed to become an appealing destination throughout the day for family fun, dining and meeting for coffee.
LITE has completed a number of projects in Swansea city centre through both its Architectural and Festive businesses. LITE were therefore a natural choice to deliver the LED lighting scheme required as part of the regeneration works.
The existing trees that line Wind Street have been pollarded, allowing for them to be illuminated for both practical and decorative purposes. LITE have specified 1,760 large globes from MaxiLED. These are controlled by a Pharos LPX 20 DMX controller in a centrally located feeder pillar with 4G remote access. A system of wireless transmitters and recievers were incorporated into the design, this allowed each of the trees to be controlled without any 'hard wiring'.
Illuminating the street at night has made it a more inviting area, while during the day the globes are visible and create a positive vibe all year round.
