Project Overview

The tallest building in Europe has as a separately operated viewing gallery based on floors 68, 69 and 72 offering some of the best views over the capital. The entrance to the ‘View from the Shard’ is based on the ground floor in the side entrance to the very busy London Bridge railway station. Despite the fine signage, it was not drawing attention to itself or making a statement as a major tourist attraction.
The client employed leading sign manufacture Image Technology to produce a radical scheme to rectify this.
To compete in this environment Image concept design consisted of a suspended Canopy some 7.5m x 2.5m containing real time video feed of amorphous shapes and patterns. LITE were then invited to provide the technical support. Through full scale mock ups at Images factory in Bromsgrove,
the solution was to use 26 strings of Philips color kinetics flex LMX RGB node system.
Despite having to use a thick fire rated material in a highly illuminated thoroughfare the Pharos fed content is exactly as the concept sketch and won the digital sign of the year in 2014.
